The DPS Collection
Ever stood on a railway platform when a Class 55 Deltic departs the station? Or better still, stood line-side as one tears past at over 100mph with both Napier engines at full power?
Well if you have, you never forget it; if you haven't then The Deltic Preservation Society does its best to make sure you can!
At Memories of Motion we have always tried to support heritage groups, and we have gone slightly further with our collaboration with the DPS by offering products where all profits from The DPS Collection will be donated to the DPS for their various appeals.
Our first products are these pictures of Deltic 55018 'Ballymoss' taken by Trevor Ermel (Copyright) at York on 3rd August 1981 having arrived with a Semi-Fast express from London Kings Cross. Our deepest thanks go to Trevor for the right to use this image.
The Fine Art Float Frame is Limited to 100 copies, and come with a numbered Certificate. When they are gone, they're gone!
Help us raise funds so that the magnificent Napier noise remains present on the railways.

A Railwayman's View
A Railwayman's View is a collection of books from ex-British Rail employees who took photographs whilst working on the railways.
Our first book featured the photographs of Ronnie Gee, a Stockport rauilwayman of over 50 years, who took photographs from the 1940s through to the early 2000s.
Peter Collins was a railwayman with a passion for photography, often inspired by the great Colin Gifford. With three volumes currently available, we are working on the last two, both featuring the Southern Region. Peter's photographs from the 1970s/80s take centre stage in these volumes, showing the gritty atmosphere of post-steam and pre-nationalisation of British Rail.

Proudly Sad, Happily Obsessed:
The Clothing Range
For Those Who Understand the Sacred Art of Locomotive Appreciation
We know who you are. You're the ones who can recite locomotive wheel arrangements like poetry. You've got seventeen notebooks filled with running numbers and departure times. Your idea of a perfect Saturday involves a flask of tea, a Platform 4, and the 10:47 to anywhere with the right traction.
And yes, you've absolutely bowed down before a Deltic. We've got photographic evidence.
This clothing range celebrates that beautiful, bewildering obsession that makes perfect sense to us and absolutely none to everyone else. "Proudly Sad, Happily Obsessed" isn't just a slogan—it's a lifestyle statement, a confession, and a battle cry all at once.
The Philosophy
Let's be honest: there's something magnificently absurd about the depth of emotion a railway enthusiast can feel towards 3,300 horsepower of Class 55 engineering excellence. That moment when you finally see the locomotive you've been chasing for months? That's not just happiness—that's transcendence. It's spiritual. It's the kind of joy that makes absolutely no sense to explain at dinner parties, which is precisely why we don't bother trying anymore.
We're proudly sad because we mourn every withdrawn class, every closed line, every scrapped locomotive that deserved better. We're happily obsessed because we've found something that ignites genuine passion in a world that often feels too cynical for wonder.
The Range
Available in t-shirts, hoodies, and polo shirts, this collection lets you wear your obsession with pride (and a healthy dose of self-awareness). Whether you're heading to a preservation railway, standing in the rain at Doncaster, or simply want the world to know that yes, you can identify a locomotive by its engine note alone, we've got you covered.
The design features the now-iconic image: a young enthusiast in full worship mode before 55007 Pinza at York—arms outstretched, head bowed, paying proper homage to 3,300 horsepower of Napier Deltic magnificence. It's reverence. It's devotion. It's exactly what non-enthusiasts will never understand, and frankly, that's their loss.
Who Is This For?
This is for the trainspotters who've made peace with the stereotype and decided to own it completely. It's for the preservation volunteers who give up their weekends to keep history moving. It's for the teenagers who get excited about traction variety. It's for anyone who's ever tried to explain to a bewildered partner why you need to leave right now because there's a Class 37 hauling a charter through Peterborough.
It's also the perfect gift for the railway enthusiast in your life—the one whose eyes light up at the mention of TOPS codes and who considers "boring train talk" an oxymoron.
Wear it with pride. Wear it with irony. Wear it with both.
Because being Proudly Sad and Happily Obsessed isn't just acceptable—it's the only honest way to live.
