Night Talisman - original photograph

New in the shop: Night Talisman

EE Deltic, 55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier', awaits the Right Away from York with the Up Talisman, the 16.00 Edinburgh to Kings Cross on 23rd December 1975. The obligatory trolley, no doubt used by spotters during the day, waits its next use on the overnight parcels services. The photograph shows the far from perfect outer skin of the Deltic, the ripples being accentuated by the platform lights. The Deltics were being utilised to their maximum at this time, but the writing was already on the wall with the prototype High Speed Train having broken the World Record for diesel traction some two years earlier. The arrival of the HSTs in 1978 not only saw the beginning of the end for the Class 55s, but also saw the decline in the carrying of parcels/mail on service trains.

Night Talisman is now available in the shop as a choice of railway prints and framed formats.
