Three days after this photograph was taken, the remaining Deltics were withdrawn from BR service. Just 20 years after their introduction swept away the Gresley Pacifics, they were themselves replaced by High Speed Trains. This is probably one of the last photographs, if not the last, of this locomotive in British Rail Service.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome BRUTEs and trollies can be seen further down the platform, as is the obligatory Gateshead-based Class 03 shunter next to some parcels carriages behind the loco.
