An educated guess may be that it was taking over 4M08, the 02.22 am parcels service to Bolton, 18.45 ex-Cardiff, or even the Shrewsbury to York.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eAdjacent to Stockport station was a large Royal Mail sorting office, and the station was busy overnight with mail and parcels traffic. Several Parcels trains called at the station during the night, with trains from Manchester to Cleethorpes, Lincoln and Crewe that linked in with the York to Shrewsbury TPO.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe Class 40s were a regular sight in the Stockport area, several being based at the nearby Longsight Depot. Like many of the class, 40139’s steam heating had been removed, so if the loco was going to be utilised on the TPO, it would have been a cold night for all onboard.
